Reagan Blames Segregation For Failing Schools

On this day in 1983, President Reagan said that one cause of the decline in public education was the effort to comply with court-ordered desegregation.

  1. Hmmm, I hear people on the left saying that the reason we are appearing to be struggling in America is that we educate everyone equally, isn't that basically saying the same thing?

  2. I'm not sure who on the left says this, but it's not true. We do not educate everyone equally. We do require that everyone attends school. However, the wealthy can afford to send their kids to elite private schools. The affluent, in general, attend better schools with high test scores and graduation rates and they come to school with a host of life advantages and a head start in the achievement gap that is already measurable and sizable by the time they are 3.
