California Teacher Eval Bill Dies

California Assemblyman Filipe Fuentes has withdraw AB 5, the new teacher evaluation bill (see here and here), saying that he could not "in good conscience" allow it to be voted on with all the new amendments, without a full public hearing, which was impossible before yesterday's deadline.

The California Teachers Association is disappointed. They saw the bill as a good compromise even though it required the use of student performance data as part of teachers' evaluations, something that would likely lead to inaccurate evaluations for many teachers.
