October 18, 1927 – The Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) Colorado Mine strike began. (From the Daily Bleed)

October 18, 1943 - The Packinghouse Workers Organizing Committee was officially replaced by the United Packinghouse Workers of America. The UPWA merged with the Amalgamated Meat Cutters and Butcher Workmen in 1968, which merged with the Retail Clerks to become the United Food and Commercial Workers in 1979. (From Workday Minnesota)

October 18, 1968 -- American Olympic track medallists John Carlos & Tommie Smith were suspended and stripped of their awards for giving the "black power" salute on October 16th at the México City Olympics. (From theDaily Bleed)
