ILWU Accepts Sellout Contract With EGT


The progressive and labor press have been claiming a victory for the ILWU in Longview, Washington, attributing it to a combination of worker militancy and support by the OWS movement. However, it is questionable whether ILWU local 21 actually won this stuggle.

The Transport Workers Solidary Committee recently published a letter from a rank and file member of Local 21 who called the new contract with EGT a sellout, saying that it “gives away the union shop,” doesn’t protect ILWU jobs and forces longshoremen to work long hours.
