Making good on his promise to privatize Jersey schools, Governor Chris Christie announced Tuesday the approval of 23 new charter schools, including ones that are single-sex and that emphasize online learning. This would bring the total number of charter schools in New Jersey to 97 (and help him in his quest to deunionize the state's teachers).
“We cannot ask children and families that have been relegated to failing public schools to wait any longer for relief while their hope is stolen away,” Christie said. (But we can divert them to questionable corporate alternatives that may not be any better and could be even worse, so that a few entrepreneurs can turn a profit on your child’s failure).
