Return of the Living Dead Vouchers

I Want Vouchers and I Want Them Now! (by juco)

For a while it seemed like the voucher movement was dying a slow agonizing death and might even disappear (or at least be subordinated to other Ed Deform trends like parent triggers, charter schools and tenure reform). Even President Obama stuck a short plastic knife into it when he withdrew federal funding for a D.C. voucher program.

Unfortunately, the voucher zombies are back, and with a vengeance, according to a recent post by Dana Goldstein, The Revival of the Private School Voucher Movement

New Jersey is offering tax credits to corporations that make donations for private school vouchers. Gov. Rick Scott of Florida has proposed a number of voucher plans that would divert tax dollars to private schools. Pennsylvania and Indiana are considering new voucher legislation. Obama is being advised by Joe Williams, from Education Reform, to cut a deal with Republicans on vouchers in exchange for their support for a NCLB reauthorization, a gigantic lose-lose deal for students and teachers.
