San Francisco Education Workers’ Labor Dispute

SEIU local 1021, which represents SFUSD’s clerical workers, nutritionists, custodians and other support staff, is heading into “fact finding,” the final step before a strike can be declared. The dispute is over contract negotiations, which have been stalled for months. The main issue is furloughs, which SFUSD insists can be imposed on workers, while SEIU insists they must be bargained. However, there are also issues around pay and a conflict between SEIU and the district over their status as Civil Servants, with bumping rights throughout San Francisco city government, and not just its schools.
