Los Angeles is King of Charter Schools

While local charter organizations complained about the roadblocks LAUSD’s new charter policy placed before them, the Chicago-based National Assn. of Charter School Authorizers gave LAUSD high marks for their plan to increase charter schools in the area. While LAUSD is only the second largest school district in the country, it has authorized more charter schools than any other school districts. The only entities to authorize more charters than LAUSD are the states of Texas and Arizona. Together with Chicago Public Schools and the North Carolina Dep. Of Ed, these five agencies oversee 26% of all charter schools.
